A Fresh Perspective No. 1 Oil on canvas 11 x 14
The inspiration for this painting came to me the morning after I painting the Glowing Grapefruit with Wings... the raspberries and grapefruit still had a little life left in them... I finished cleaning my brushes and my first cup of coffee was already consumed....
Glowing Grapefruit with Wings Oil on canvas 8 x 10
My original intention for this still life was to paint the grapefruits and raspberries from a bird’s eye view but when I rested the half of the grapefruit in the glass bowl as I cleared off my work table... I looked up... an the inspiration light bulb went on... “ah-ha...looks like the grapefruit has glowing wings... what would happen if I placed this raspberry on top... whah-la... an Angel of Light appeared ... and a still life was born.... time to take action!
A Whole New View No. 2 Oil on canvas 8 x 8
I enjoyed painting the strawberry frosted donut so much.... my daughter and I made yet another detour to DD yesterday... this time the white glazed donut leaped out of the donut bin and cried “Paint Me, Paint Me! .... how did it know?
A Whole New View Oil on canvas 8 x 8
After school yesterday my daughter and I stopped in DD.... a pit stop before our journey home. I order a hazelnut decaf and she order a strawberry frosted donut ( her favorite)... I said to the girl behind the count, “ make that two donuts, please”. With a puzzled look on her face, my daughter said “Is the second one for me too? ” I smiled at her, shook my head no and whispered in her ear ..“No, I want to paint it”. She smiled, just shook her head... and said... “that’s my mom...everything’s a painting to her.”
It took a few days to painting this still life giving the donut a chance “to stiffen up” and “stand on it’s own”... but the strawberry glaze never lost is glow and the sprinkle stayed in tacked. I loved the view from inside the donut whole...
Yellow Pepper Demo Oil on canvas 8 x 8
Here’s another quick study I did based on a video instruction by Carol Marine.
I love the freshness of the yellow pepper and the simplicity of the design.
It was a delight to paint.
White Roses and Oranges Oil on canvas 8 x 8
I was inspired to create this small quick study after my husband and I came back from grocery shopping on Sunday afternoon. As I passed by these beautiful white roses the scent linger around me crying “take me home”.... and later when I cut up this orange the two fragrances dance in the air like a graceful duet.
E is for Egg Quiche Oil on canvas 8 x 8
As I was preparing an egg, ham and cheese quiche for my kids this morning I placed all the ingredients down on the counter only to discover an orchestra of objects, colors, textures and patterns. So I grabbed my camera and shot a few pictures. I later created a pencil sketch and then an half tone value study.
The letter “E” comes from the PEACE painting I created in December and on December 22 I painted the “A” for Apple Pie. I’m hoping there be more kitchen counter inspiration to complete the rest of the word “PEACE”.
from my sketchbook
Sometimes the vision doesn’t always match the execution but knowing that I can take away something as a learning lesson makes each painting a gift in some way or another.
Quilted Color Study #1 Oil on canvas 12 x 12
I enjoy taking a break between painting by doing geometric designs, patterns and mandalas. This color study I was preparing the paints for my next painting.
Floral Still Life Demo#2 Oil on Canvas 8 x 10
This is the second demo that I completed by watching Craig Nelson’s Quick Studies in Oil Painting video.... in under an hour! Now I think I need a nice long nap... :).
