Yesterday, Cindy Stevens and I met up with over a dozen other Madison Art Society artists at Harkness Park in Waterford, CT.
What an amazing place! I had never been there before and I was overwhelmed with the beauty and variety of gorgeous vignettes. There was a Mansion, Carriage House, Carriage House Gardens, at least three formal gardens with sculpture and a pagoda, a lavender/ garden with iron gates and when you turn around you get an ocean view, marshes and beaches.... simply amazing. I was to say the least overwhelmed so I decided to take lots of photos and sketch for most of the day. After reviewing my photos this morning I knew I had to paint one scene so I decide on this beach scape. There were a few people relaxing in sand chairs and a couple were fishing for bass. The seagulls scurried along the water's edge.
This painting is unframed and available for purchase for $225.

work in progress, commissioned 12 x12 from Day 21 of 30 Day Challenge
Here's the latest piece I've been working on. It's a larger version of Day 21 from the 30 Day Painting Challenge.
Shortly after posting the small 6 x 6 painting I received an email to have this piece painted larger.
I put both paintings side by side so you can see the difference in size.
I've been commissioned to paint this scene at 24" x 24" too! (Can't wait for the challenge! I just purchased the canvas today!)
When painting the small 6 x 6's, it trains me to be conscience of each brushstroke and color that I apply. It's like studying a puzzle and carefully fitting all the pieces together... and boy do I love to do puzzles! But when a request comes in to enlarge a painting... it's so exciting because I get to really play with the brush strokes, refining the colors or adding new ones and adding more depth by the way I paint the edges soft or sharp.
If one of my small, mini paintings catches your eye and you would like me to paint a larger version... just give me a call or send an e-mail, I would be happy to give you an estimate and time frame. Or if you have a great photo that you would like to be reproduced as an original oil painting... it would be a pleasure to work with you!

I painted this small 6 x 8 painting last summer while my family and I were on a picnic in Guilford. It was a beautiful summer day and this little girl happened to walk into my view when I was just about finished with the painting. I added her in and so pleases with the results. Hope you enjoy the painting Annette!

Over the past year I've taken so many shots of places, events, people and things all around Connecticut and I'm looking forward to sharing these inspirations with you.
Springtime in Mystic
Last April my husband Dean and I took an overnight trip to Mystic, CT as a shared birthday present (we both have the same birthday April 12, but one year apart. He's older :)
We stayed in the beautiful Old Mystic Inn Bed and Breakfast ( I'll share more about the Inn in a future painting/post) and made our way out for an evening of delicious dining and fun in downtown Mystic, CT.
Here's a shot I took while we were strolling alone the main street downtown. We explored the enchanting little shops and boutiques, stopped in for a bite to eat, fresh oysters and fried calamari, and to our surprise found a "Pirate Party" fundraiser going on at the Mystic Art Center with a band, more great food and lots of silent auction items to bid on! Oh and I can't forget the place was swarming with lots of colorful and animated Pirates... these folks really know how to play the part of their seafaring village!
