Beach Buddies - figure study Ok another wonderful day in my studo. It was cold and raining all day today ,,, but inside my world was colorful, cheerful, warm and cozy.
As I searched through the reference file folder I found a whole bunch of summertime and beach photos. I hooked up my computer to the large screen tv and it becomes a gigantic monitor. From here each image is projected on the full screen ... It's so large and clear... it feels like I'm right there on the beach with the kids. This time I tried picking up the pace. I didn't want to spend to much time on the details or get caught up with the likeness. Instead I spend much of my time analyzing the water and reflection colors. Recently I watch a video by an artist who uses a variation of the traditional primary color palette of red, yellow and blue. Instead he used what printers use on a printing press for his primary colors. These are CMYK in printing terms. the C stands for Cyan - which is a light blue, the M stands for Magenta - a bright pink, Y stands for Yellow and K stands for Black ( don't ask me how that happened). I decided to give it a try... I found that I could mix just as many colors and more with these 4 colors. The colors seemed to bolder and brighter to me. I can't wait to show my students next week my new discovery! I'll be teaching a beginner Acrylics Class at Artsplace in Cheshire, CT - it will run for 6 weeks on Tuesday nights.
