Great class or workshop for those who have attended any of my painting parties or paint nights and want to take the next step. I will take you through the process of creating an acrylic painting from blank canvas to ready to frame. Even those with no drawing or painting experience will enjoy learning in this relaxed environment. You’ll experience the basic building blocks of painting – design, value, and color.
Learn simple ways to drawing out your painting first using common methods. Next we'll learn how to mix colors and how to see and apply light and dark colors to create a more realistic painting. The class will focus on the fundamentals of color mixing, basic brush techniques, paint handling and application. We'll put it all together to complete two finished paintings.
We'll work on fun and easy to do exercises that you can practice at home. With plenty of guidance and individual attention, you'll be surprised at how much you'll learn to build your painting confidence.
Where to Start?
We'll begin with a few basic warm up exercise that will help you to understand how versatile and fun acrylics paints are. You'll learn how to create a simple color wheel for reference, layering colors and basic brush techniques.
Color Mixing and understanding Value
Learning how to mix colors is important part of the essentials in painting. By learning and growing your "color vocabulary" - you'll see your painting skills improve quickly. You'll learn about values, shades, tints, complimentary colors and more.
Through simple exercises you'll learn foundational skills that can build your artistic knowledge and can be applied in other areas of creating art.
Preparing your canvas and drawing out your painting first
It's always best to start with a plan. A rough sketch, a photo reference or a drawing. I'll teach you easy ways to transfer a photo or drawing to the canvas. How to prepare the surface and get started.
Adding layers, glazing, texture to your piece
Acrylics mediums and gels are great for exploring and growing your knowledge in acrylic painting.
We'll put it all together by working one final project form start to finish and incorporating the lessons from the previous classes.
My student's and their beautiful works of Art! I'm so proud of them!
