Madison Farm
This painting was painted on a very hot day in July. The only place one could paint without melting was under the big oak trees that were scattered throughout the farm. It was even too hot for the horses to come out of their stalls. But the chickens seemed to carry on their business, clucking and chatting with each other as scurried around nibbling on grain and such.

The Art Lesson - Thimble Island. Branford, CT
this painting was created during a three-day workshop on the Thimble Islands with Bob Noreika. The weather was absolutely gorgeous. Sunny with a slight breeze. On the third day, we were at the tail end of Governor's Island. I love to paint and sketch my fellow artists as they work. For the most part, they stay still and they're concentrating so much on their own work, they have no idea I'm painting them.

Autumn Stroll Down Lovers Lane - Guilford, CT
It was very windy that day in November so the three of us set up our easels, zipped up the jackets and work gloves while we worked. I didn't know how long I was going to last so I painted in acrylics using black, white and a little burnt umber. The canvas was toned first with a yellow ochre.
It wasn't until a few months later in my warm and cozy studio that I added the colors and details.

A July Day on the Farm, Lavender Pond Farm, Killingworth, CT
A wonder day at the Lavender farm! The temper was just right and I found nice shady spot under a big oak tree. I was just along the pathway where the train would come around from behind the house.... read more on blog post.

Peaceful among the Lavender Fields, Lavender Pond Farm, Killingworth, CT
My first trip to the Lavender farm and I was so amazed at how beautiful and peaceful this place is. It's a 25 acre farm that grows lavender plants. But that's not all... they make lavender oil and from that they have fragranced a huge variety of charming gifts and products.... all with the intention to relax and stay calm!
The first time out here I came with the Madison Art Society we were just a little bit early for the full bloom season. So I began my painting, blocking in the shapes and the gazebo with full intentions of returning a few weeks later.

Pink Cascade, Wooster Square, New Haven CT

framed in a silver frame 3" frame
End of April I was with a small group of painters from the Madison Art Society, we met up in New Haven at Wooster Square. There are dozens of Cherry Blossom trees that line the square. It so incredibly beautiful there. People come from all over the state to walk around, take photos, and enough a nice Italian meal in the heart of Little Italy of New Haven. I've been here numerous times to paint and I'm always so in awe over how beautiful and enchanting the square looks with the unique architecture of each building and the soft pink cascade of the cherry blossoms.Â

First Blooms in Branford
9x 12" oil painting
framed in silver frameMy first plein air painting for the season. It was still very cold out so I sat in my car, set up my palette box and rested it on the steering wheel. I just love the way the light was pouring down the street. It touched the tips of the pink blossoms. This was one of the first trees in town to bloom. I had to go back the next day to fill in a few details missing on the buildings in the background but I was very pleased with my first painting of the season. It pays to practice in the studio but nothing compares to painting from life.Â

The annual cherry Blossom Festival is happening in a few days and you can just feel the excitement in the air. Pink Rain - full of joy and wonder!

Marina Day at Branford Yacht Club
18 x 24" acrylic painting
framed in a silver fra,e
This beautiful scene was painted mostly on location during the annual Marina Day at Branford Yacht Club in Branford, CT. It was a gorgeous day early in June. There were a dozen or so vendors, grilled food, entertainment through out the day. We set up our pop up tent on the grassy bank and I began painting around 9am. I painted through out the day chatting with boaters, members of the club and visitors. I met so many wonderful folks from the Yacht club!
This painting is available as a print - please email for custom print prices and sizes.

Red Boat, River Bend, Branford, CT
8 x 10" oil on canvas panel
framed
This piece was started as a plein air piece during a weekly plein air class. I finished up in my studio based on memory and photo references. I love the way the kayakers are paddling their way down the river. There's always so much activity happening along the Branford River, from boaters, to those dining at the nearby restaurant Nellie Greens or enjoying the summer at Stony Creek Brewery. This piece was painting at Barbarie's marina across the river. I was standing on the once famous Lobster Snack location.

This is a favorite spot for me and my husband to go during the early evening and sunset. It's a small little cove tucked away behind a row big beautiful homes in Madison. The view looks west toward Guilford. The little shack that's is a famous landmark in CT is captured here in dark shadows while the sunsets on the other side. The lights of the houses and business twinkle as well as the glistening calm water.

Casting Among the Colorful Rocks at Meigs Point, Hammonassett Beach was inspired by our last day trip. Saturday morning we headed out early, Dean packed his fishing gear and I had my plein air bag ready to go by 6:45am. We stopped at Clinton Beach first but made our way to Hammonassett Beach in Madison. It was crowded already so early in the morning. I think everyone was so happy to just be outside, enjoying the warmer weather and breathing in the fresh salt air.

Afternoon at Ferry Landing Park, Old Lyme, CT

medium: oil
shown in a silver plein air frame, other framing options are available

Description:
Late afternoon out for another fishing and painting excursion with my hubby. We headed toward Harkness Memorial Park in Waterford but not sure if the park was open to the public.
Plan B, took the Lyme exit, rounded the bend and headed down Ferry Lane to Ferry Landing State Park where the DEEP headquarters are.
It's a small park but right on the water. Plenty of fisherman lined the railing along the path and the park. Once I got use to the sound of the bridge alarm and didn't jump out of my chair each time it went off I fell into my art zone.
From the lapping water to the boaters enjoying the day made such a pleasing background sound as I worked away on this smaller canvas. The sun was heading toward the golden hour and the sky offered soft pastel colors of pinks, peaches and yellows.
I might have painted the American flag a little too small in the painting - it's a really huge flag if you see it in person. At one point I thought I hear thecaptain of the boat start the engine and I panicked. Should I paint faster? or shot a photo before it departs. Thank goodness the boat stayed parked and I could finish the painting after all.

Front Porch at Bauer Farm, Madison, CT
9 x 12" oil on canvas
framed - framing options available
Painted on location at Bauer Farm in Madison CT. This is a beautiful property with plenty of great places to paint. There is an old white farm house close to the main road with barns and an old tractor off to the side. Then in the back there's a lily pond with a covered bridge. As you follow the windy driveway up to the back of the property there's a community garden that offers a wide array of colorful flowers and vegetable plants. This feels like such a classic New England property I could only imagine the history of the family and activities that took place on this picturesque setting. It feels like a scene out of a Nicholas Sparks book.Â
This is a favorite place for the painters of the Madison Art Society to go. It's not only convenient and close to home it offers so many choices. There were about 8 or 9 of us painting yesterday. Some working in oils, others in watercolor and a few in pastel. Each painting is so different, so unique. That's what I love about going out plein air painting. So much variety and an abundance of inspiration.

I knew the moment I stepped onto this property and took a quick look around, this was no ordinary garden shop. And you could tell by the way each section was carefully designed and displayed. For a painter I could quickly spot 5-6 different locations that would make a great painting. The only trick was to find a place that could offer shade and be out of the way of customers.Â
I opted for this spot, tucked into a little nook and off the path. The sun made it's way out from behind the clouds half way through our painting session. I was with 6 other painters from the Madison Art Society. This was our first time painting at Acer Gardens in Deep River, CT.Â
I spotted the gardens on my way back from the Goodspeed Opera House in May and popped in to take a quick peek. It was busy with plenty of folks pulling around carts filled with an array of colorful flowers and shrubs.Â
Along with beautiful surrounds, we found the staff to be just a wonderful group of friendly and helpful folks. They were busy moving plants here and pots there but never too busy to stop and take a peek at our paintings and engage in an enjoyable conversation.
We exchange instagram info and shared posts and tags - They seemed very happy to have us there. And the best part... they invited us back!
The painting is showing a dark brown mahogany finish with a 3" wide frame - other framing options are available. Custom prints are available in larger sizes. Please contact me for more information.

Grass is Greener behind the Barn, Tiffany Farms, Lyme CT
9 x 12" acrylic on canvas
framed in a silver brushed frame - other framing options available
free shipping or delivery in Connecticut
Painted en plein air with my student Lisa. We joined the Lyme Art Association Plein Air Group on Tiffany Farm in Lyme, CT. The farm was once one of the largest dairy farms in Connecticut. It's now just a beef farm with a Saturday morning farmers market. The cows weren't out that day. It was very hot but we found a nice place in the shade to paint. I decide the piece need a friendly face of a cow standing by the gate so I painted it in when I returned to my studio.

Painted at Acer Gardens in Deep River CT with the Madison Art Society Painters on Wednesday morning. It was an over cast day which made all the rich fall colors even more vibrant and saturated. I was inspired by the sound of the fountain garden, with bubbling rolling waters. The design of the garden created a sense of peace and tranquility. Such a lovely day painting and the folks at Acer are so friendly and helpful. We will definitely return in another season to experience the well designed gardens and displays.

Past the Point, Meig's Point, Hammonasset Park, Madison, CT
Painted en plein air at Hammonasset State Park
18 x 24" acrylic on canvas
framed in a natural wood frame
This piece was created on location at Hammonasset State Park. I met up with my friends Lorraine and John on Sunday. We painted for most of the day. The sky was bright and with no clouds in the direction that I was facing. I was able to complete half of the underpainting and drawing.
The next I returned for another three hours. I bumped into a few of my friends from another art group, the Hamden Art League, and we all painted in close proximity. It was so nice to see them, It's been almost one year since I saw them last. This year has been a crazy year, even though we're finding ways to cope with the social distancing and isolation due to Covid, I still miss the freedom of our casual gatherings.
The second clouds filled the sky. I painted them in but upon returning back to my studio they seem to be competing with the rocks. So, I painted over the clouds to clear blue sky again and I think it will start that way.
What I love about painting rocks is that the more you see and observe them the more colors seem to appear. They may start off as a dull neutral gray but over time I see more and more colors come out. From muted violets to warm burnt Sienna oranges, even greens and a few pinks here and there.

Waiting for a Ride, Trolley Road, Guilford, Ct
Sold out
10 x 20" canvas
painted in oils
framed in natural wood frame
painted mostly en plein air and finished up in the studio. This is a favorite place for both me and my husband to go on a painting/fishing outings. It's hidden little spot with a public boat launch on Trolley Road in Guilford. There are just a few parking spots and easy spot to load your kayak or small boat into the the marshy area that has fresh sea water rolling in during high tide. There's a small beach that residents enjoy and the views of the shoreline houses is amazing. It's a very desired location in Guilford.
This is the first time I saw this small row boat parked up on the shore next to tall grass.

Branford Blue Waters, Branford, CT
shown in a gold champagne toned frame, other framing options are available
Painted at Branford Point in the the park near the pier. It was late July into early August when I set up my easel one morning. I love painting at Branford Park there are always folks walking around, fishing, swimming, jogging and biking. It's a busy spot but it never seems too crowded.... well, expect for weekends.Â
Behind me is a quickly ascending hill that's covered with trees and foliage. It makes for great shady spots to paint and gives a nice panoramic view of the harbor and Branford River.Â
I met so many wonder people while painting. A father with his young son in the stroller, a couple who the husband's name is Bob Ross! A lovely lady who grew up in Branford and shared a few fun stories about what the local scene and how it's changed over the years.
I truly love living here in Branford. It's a very friendly community.

A Day on the Farm, New Pond Farm in Redding CT
10 x 20" acrylic on canvas
framed in a gold tone frame - other framing options are available
New Pond Farm Educational Center is located in Redding, CT. It's an incredible place with the most spectacular views of the rolling hills, pastures, the barns and chicken coop is not your typical red barn, these are painted a light yellow with white fencing around the grounds for the animals and an old white farm house. They have many programs all year round for families and schools.https://newpondfarm.org
I was invited by my friend John who lives near by and paints often at New Pond Farm. Joining us were several other artist friends. We painted Sunday October 11. The leaves were just about turning, not quit peak but so very beautiful. I met several very friendly New Pond Staff as well as members who were visiting for the day.Â
Definitely on my list to return again. There were so many views and just not enough time to paint.Â

Billy Goats at Silverman's Farm, Easton, CT
12 x 16" canvas panel
painted in acrylic paints
framed in a gold tone frame, other framing options are available
On Saturday October 31st a small group of us from the Connecticut Plein Air Painters Society meet up at Silverman's Farm in Easton, CT.Â
It was a cold morning, just the day before it snowed and up in the northern part of Connecticut they had about 3 inches. It was just a dusting for us along the coast but it did usher in the colder winter weather.Â
I have to confess, I had never been to Silverman's Farms but Mom took my kids there a few times to pick pumpkins and see the farm animals. It's quit the operation along Sport Hill Road in Easton. It's a fun attraction for the whole family with lots of farm animals, if I had to guess there were about 100 animals. Lots of goats, sheep, reindeer, buffalo, donkeys, llamas, chickens, roosters, bunnies and so many more!Â
There are pick your own apples, pears and peaches, a farmers market, food trucks, activities for the kids, a general store and much more.Â
Our small group met and then scattered choosing different locations to set up. I decided to paint the billy goats. I loved the tall water tower with the rooster weathervane and the red covered structures that provided shade for the animals while they eat their hay.
These goats where very smart, as soon as they saw me stop by the fence they came over right away, probably to see if I had food. But once I set up my easel, they all scattered to different parts of their pen so that there were none in my canvas view. After about an hour I think they forgot about me and made their way back to the hay barrel. Some would grab the hay from the bottom while others would jump up with their hooves on the metal frame and eat from the tippy top of the stack. It was fun to watch and observe as the little children and their parents would walk by. If the kids had a handful or hat full of food, the larger billy goats would jump onto the fence, stretch their necks and stick out their tongues to get a bit of food.Â
It was Halloween day and folks young and old were dressed in costumes. Some braved the cold but others had big winter parkas on over their princess gowns.Â
When I arrived I met Mr. Silverman and he suggested that our group of painters take a walk to the top of hillside to see the view. And what a view! It was a hike up the hill past the orchard trees but so worth the climb. I would love to return to paint the animals and the incredible view.

12 x 9" oil on canvas
shown in gold frame - other framing options are available
Our second painting out with the Connecticut Plein air painters society was at the New Britain Museum of American Art in New Britain, CT. We met up on Saturday September 26- it started off rainy and drizzly on my way up to the museum but by the time we unpacked our gear and found a place to paint the sun came out and it was just a perfect day to paint - together. I've just stepped into the role of President for CPAPS and there's a lot to learn and organize. I'm hoping we'll have a board soon so that jobs can be delegated and the work load is a little lighter. But I enjoy gather with my fellow artists, finding new places in Connecticut to paint and seeking new ways to showcase our artwork. This is our 25th year but we plan to celebrate next year because of all the restriction due to Covid. I'm looking forward to meeting new painters and checking out all the beautiful spots in our small but picturesque state!
