This piece was painted for the Branford Land Trust Art Show. I was asked by one of my colleagues if I would like to participate in the show this year. I was thrilled to be asked and always happy to participate in worthy local causes to help raise funds. I have painted in Branford for a few years now and I'm sure I painted on the Branford Land Trust Properties without realizing it but this time I decided to go to their website and look for some of the properties I had never been to. The website is very informative with maps and photos and plenty of detailed information about the properties and trails. My husband Dean and I headed out on Sunday afternoon to check out Train Trail and the Stony Creek Partnership/Washburn sites.
The first was easy to find since we've been there so many times, however I had a different agenda, to find something "paintable" or at least a scene that has potential. The second location was a bit more challenging to find and we had to refer back to the website map to make sure we were headed in the right direction. But we found it and what a wonderful surprise! There were quarry rocks and marshes, cattails, rushing water from the river into the sound and a beautiful vista of the ocean with the Thimble Islands scattered around. I snapped a bunch of photos and back in my studio I projected them on the big screen tv so I could start planning and painting.
