This piece was painted in black and white value study first when I was painting on location. A small group of us from the Madison Art Society met up at the Thomas Griswold House Museum.
It was very windy that day in November so the three of us set up our easels, zipped up the jackets and work gloves while we worked. I didn't know how long I was going to last so I painted in acrylics using black, white and a little burnt umber. The canvas was toned first with a yellow ochre.
It wasn't until a few months later in my warm and cozy studio that I added the colors and details.
