Commissioned Original Artwork
by Linda S. Marino

Commissioning an Original Painting

Custom or commissioned artwork makes your gift stand out from all the others. Taking the time to hire an artist to create that special piece whether it's capturing a family portrait, a beloved pet, your family home, or vacation memory.

You'll be a hero. They'll be touched by your thoughtfulness.

Do you love my painting style but want something more custom. Do you have a space in your home or office that needs a piece of artwork to make the room feel complete but you've been search and search but can't find the right piece?

I love creating custom paintings for my clients. Bringing their vision to life!

Look no further.  Over the past decade, I've helped over a hundred clients with custom artwork.  From wall murals to wedding gifts, pet to house portraits. Graduation, anniversary, Mother's Day, and Father's Day gifts.

If you love my painting style but want something a little bit more custom, I’m happy to help you create a one-of-a-kind original work that reflects your vision. I have a simple streamlined process that will make commissioning a painting an enjoyable and easy experience.

The Process

Step 1 - Getting Started

Contact me by phone, or email - Let’s get the conversation started.

We’ll pick a time for an initial meeting - This usually takes about 30 minutes, which is where we get to know each other. If your vision of a commissioned painting is based on a photo this is the best time to send over a few images so that we can review the images together.

I’ll ask you a few questions about your ideas and visions of a commissioned painting. Like, what does this commission piece mean to you? The more we communicate in the beginning the smoother the process will go.  I’ll also share with you my painting process so you get a full scope of concept to completion for a commissioned painting.

Step 2 - Agreement and Deposit

An agreement contract will be sent over. Detailing the overview of the and what’s expected from both of us. A 50% deposit is required to begin commissioned work. I will then block in the estimated painting time into my studio schedule.

Step 3 - Preliminary Sketches

I will create a small sketch, depending on the commission project the sketch could be in pencil, watercolor, or a small oil study. They’ll be sent over for your review. At this stage, it is common to go through one or two rounds of sketch reviews and revisions to make sure we are on the same page. Commissions typically take 3-5 weeks to complete, depending on size and complexity.

Step 4 - Begin Painting

Once we have the concept and composition set I’ll begin painting. Progress photos will be sent along the way. It’s wonderful to have your input throughout the process.

Step 5 - A Final Photo for your Review

A final photo for your review. At this point, there might be only a few minor changes or edits.

Step 6- Packaged with Love

Your painting is ready for it's final coat of protective varnish. Then carefully packaged and ready to be shipped or hand-delivered.

Step 7- Reveal Day!

Your painting is ready to hang and enjoy! Or ready to wrap and give as a gift!
